CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service)

Creativity, physical activity, community service

The CAS program at Meridian 22 fosters not only personal growth but also supports communities and individuals in need. It unites all High School students, and often even younger pupils from the Primary School. IB students typically take the lead in initiating and inspiring these projects, as "Creativity, Activity, Service" (CAS) lies at the heart of the Diploma Programme. Through CAS, students have the opportunity to bring the IB learner profile to life, develop as individuals, and understand their role in the wider community. CAS offers a platform for self-expression, collaboration, self-improvement, and enjoyment. Students are required to participate in a CAS project that showcases their initiative, perseverance, and ability to work in teams, solve problems, and make decisions. Both the school and students must prioritize CAS just as they would any other element of the Diploma Programme, ensuring adequate time for engagement in these activities. While CAS is not formally graded, its successful completion is essential for earning the IB diploma.

Participation in Amnesty International’s Campaign for International Human Rights Day

9th December 2024

On 10th December, the world observes International Human Rights Day, a date marking the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10th December 1948, initiated by the United Nations.

To commemorate this significant occasion, we were honoured to welcome Mrs Evgenia Bernstein, Amnesty International’s representative for Bulgaria, as a special guest at our Assembly. Amnesty International is an organisation with over 60 years of history in defending human rights through various initiatives.

Mrs Bernstein introduced students to the “Write for Rights” campaign. She encouraged interested students to participate by writing letters to governmental institutions advocating for young individuals who have been unjustly sentenced. This year, Bulgaria will join this global initiative for the first time, uniting millions of people around the world in a collective voice for justice.

Reading Week at Meridian 22

During Reading Week in our primary school, students from Grade 12IB visited Grade 3A to work together on a project inspired by Astrid Lindgren’s beloved character, Pippi Longstocking. The high schoolers shared with the younger students that Pippi Longstocking remains one of their favourite books to this day. They read aloud the chapter Pippi Goes to School and had an incredible amount of fun! At the end, they created a poster together, featuring illustrations and memorable quotes from the children’s novel. We are proud of our CAS programme in the high school, led by Mrs Marta Kurek!

The New Library

The new school building now has its very own library! For several days, students from Grades 11IB and 12IB have been transporting and arranging books in the library of the new facility. The once-empty shelves are gradually coming to life, filled with carefully organised dictionaries, textbooks, fiction, and non-fiction literature in Bulgarian, English, Spanish, and German! In addition to the collection from the old library, dozens of new books—donated by students, teachers, parents, and friends of the school—have been added.

CAS Project – School Garden

This school year greeted us in the newly built, modern, spacious, and bright building of "Meridian 22." However, to ensure that this beautiful building harmonises with nature, the students from grades 11 and 12, together with their teachers, helped to restore the green spaces in front of the school's new home even before 15th September. The task was quite demanding, but everyone worked with great enthusiasm!

May 2024

Another successful CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) project for the 11th-grade IB students, supported by pupils from the whole school – a visit to the municipal shelter for stray dogs in Seslavtsi with the help of volunteers from 1500 Dog Gang. Touching encounters between sad dogs and warm, big-hearted children. Walks, cuddles, play, and a bit of sadness. Adopt, don't shop!

March – May 2024

Our inspired 11IB students, under the guidance of Ms Todora Yaneva, created the event "Let’s Green and Beautify Part of the Courtyard Spaces in the 'Mladost 2' District," which is part of the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) subject. "We successfully completed this project to green the municipal spaces in front of 'Meridian 22' School! It turned out to be a picturesque lawn with a variety of flowers!"
